Why Comicon is Better Than Vegas, Part 3

Here we have the last group of pictures from our recent experience at Phoenix Comicon. If you missed Part 1 or Part 2, be sure to check out those great pictures, too.

One of the best parts of the exhibitor hall at Comicon (for the kids, and for us) was the Star Wars Neighborhood. We visited several times throughout the weekend, and ran into several interesting characters.

Like I said, we had a fantastic time, and we can't wait to go back next year. And the kids have already asked if we can dress up next time, so we might have some even more hilarious pictures to share after the next one. :)

Why Comicon is Better Than Vegas, Part 2

Yes, I have more great pictures from Phoenix Comicon. Because there were a lot of people in fantastic costumes, and they were all more than happy to take pictures with these two adorable kids. (If you missed Part 1, and the first set of pictures, you can find it here.)

Ok, I know those last few aren't people in costumes, but they're still very cool. And a great example of some of the awesome things you can see at Comicon.

Tune in tomorrow for Part 3, and the rest of the great pictures!

Why Comicon is Better Than Vegas

As you know, my husband and I took the kids to Phoenix Comicon last weekend. And yes, they were just a bit excited.

We didn't get to do everything we had wanted to do (because you really can't. There's just too much.) But we still had a blast. We took in a few panels, did some shopping, and - the best part - did a lot of people watching. The cosplay there was fantastic.

And that's where we get to the "better than Vegas" part. Because in Las Vegas, it is very common to see people dressed in some creative costumes. But those people are also very skilled in not letting you take their picture - unless you give them money. At Comicon, on the other hand, the people are there to have fun and socialize, and are completely happy to have their pictures taken with other fans.

Especially when those other fans are adorable kids who come up and very politely say "May we take a picture with you, please?" It melted hearts every time. :)

That last one took a little bit of convincing. We saw this booth on the first night, and the kids almost went up for a picture, but then chickened out at the last minute. Finally on our last day there we saw it again and the kids agreed to pose. My daughter told me later "At first I was a little bit scared. But then I realized that it's just an illusion." Wise beyond her years, that one.

Tune in tomorrow for Part 2 of the story (and more great pictures!)

Accidental Eavesdropping

You know those times when you're sitting in a crowded restaurant, and you just can't help but overhear snippets of other people's conversations? Sometimes it's mundane, and you don't think much of it. But other times, don't you kind of wish that you could hear the rest of the conversation?

While we were out running some errands this morning, my daughter and I decided to stop and have some breakfast. She was pretty deeply engrossed in the puzzles on her placemat, so I sat enjoying my coffee and letting my mind wander a bit (which is when I started picking up bits of other conversations.)

The ladies next to me weren't that interesting. I didn't really care what they were going to buy at Walmart, or whether they had remembered to bring the shopping list this time.

The people at two different tables were having separate conversations about airline travel, which I thought was interesting. (That they were having similar conversations, I mean. Neither conversation was particularly life-changing, though.)

The woman behind me laughed at whoever she was with, and told him "That was SO two years ago!" I was curious about that one, but unfortunately didn't catch any more.

But my absolute favorite one was the guy two tables over, who told his friend, "I mean, I like Charlie Murphy, but only in small doses." That one actually made me giggle a bit.

How about you? Done any good eavesdropping lately?
